Guided Imagery Relaxation for Children

All children encounter experiences that result in physical or emotional pain and trauma stress
reduction techniques such as guided imagery and relaxation are not only effective coping
strategies for dealing with painful experiences, but also help build self-confidence, self-reliance,
concentration, and creativity. By engaging their powers of imagination and creativity, children
can learn to relax control their mindbody states, and cope with stressful events.
Designed for health care practitioners, teachers and parents, this workshop will introduce
practical, age appropriate, relaxation techniques for preschoolers through adolescents. This
workshop will explore techniques for:
Coping with the unfamiliar and transitions such as divorce, hospitalization, death of a loved one, change in routine
Managing pain
Getting to sleep
Building self-esteem and self-confidence
Roxanne Daleo, Ph.D, is a health educator and counselor in private practice, lecturer and author
of audiotapes for children and adults. As an instructor at Harvard University and health educator
consultant, Dr. Daleo develops preschool through university age curriculum as well as corporate
programs in stress management and relaxation. Her company, MindWorks for Children, Inc.
designs and produces guided imagery/relaxation audio programs.
